Welcome to straw-bale construction site in Plozevet! Volunteers are especially and directly welcome to an inspirational and ongoing learning - exchanging experience. So far we spoke French, English, German and Dutch at the site... What we can offer: Experience through theoretical and practical straw-bale construction for 10 years in NL, D, B, F, DK, A, H, GB, USA International networking, 23 wonderful volunteers from 7 countries have taken part in the building process; Some of the philosophical approach...; Shared basic meals (mostly vegetarian); very basic opportunity to sleep under the roof or in a tent. For a little more comfort we recommend a camping nearby or rent a lovely house in the neighbourhood; We can pick you up at the station of Quimper or during the weekend at Morlaix; A marvellous building site, just about 100 m from the coastline, where you can walk the European coast path. Just 10 minutes walking and you are in Pors-Poulhan, a tiny fishing harbour with a nice pub, again 5 minutes and you touch a Dolmen, a Neolithic site, another 10 walking minutes and you arrive at Paleozethic site, the second oldest finding place in our history, some 465.000 years ago. Of course everything vue mer; And directly at the site: carpentry work, placing straw-bales, limeplastering, slate-roofing, building a stone wall etc. The timing depends on the amount of volunteers, just call. What we expect: Motivation and interest; You are handy and conscious of security aspects (tools, ladders etc.); You are self-insured (we have a different project than foreseen in the French insurance system, i.e. short term attendees and foreigners can not be insured) and tell us about possible special health related things; Possibly that you bring some of your tools; You will have fun.
The house: The straw-bale house consists of 2 mirrored units, for rent in the future. So if you want to experience how to live in a straw-bale house next year (2006-): sign up! There will be solar floorheating, supported by gas, a cozy woodstove, hall, bathroom, salon with open kitchen (vue mer) and up 2 bedrooms almost overlooking the Bay d'Audierne. We install a "tertre" a septic tank with 120 m2 sandfilter and a lovely terrasse faced south - vue mer. The majority of the roof is insulated with limeplastered straw-bales. The inside of the house will consist partly of lime stucco and partly covered by Fermacell. We also want to install some ECOPANNEAUX (see further on the site - thanks to Kuba, Adam and Sharon) - those in Brittany interested in the panels: we could order together! In the village (after the Credit Agricole to the left) you follow the signs Pors-Poulhan. 10 m before the village sign Pors-Poulhan you turn right and again to the right and you are right there.
